eThekwini Municipality is seeking passionate candidates who would like to work as a professional and qualified Cashier on a seasonal basis for District 2. The eThekwini Municipality Cashier Job Vacancy involves working on a rotating schedule that includes weekends, where Saturdays and Sundays are considered regular workdays. In collaboration with the Pool Supervisor, the role entails performing cashier duties such as issuing tickets and collecting revenue in accordance with Council policies and procedures. This responsibility ensures adherence to established guidelines while maintaining efficient operations at the facility.

Job Responsibilities

Candidates will need to perform the duties below:

  • Working alongside the Pool Supervisor, handles the sale of tickets and coupons to the public
  • Manages pool bookings
  • Provides assistance to members of the public in collaboration with the Pool Supervisor
  • Notifies and supports the Pool Supervisor as needed
  • Distributes permits to the public.

General Duties as Cashier

  • Ring up customer purchases, scan items, and enter them into the system, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately
  • Count money accurately, handle cash transactions with precision, and provide the correct change to customers
  • Use POS software or systems to enter transactions, apply discounts, and process various payment methods, maintaining accurate records
  • Assist customers with their inquiries, answer questions, resolve complaints, and ensure a positive shopping experience
  • Keep the cashier station clean and organized, including the surrounding area, to ensure a tidy and professional environment
  • Monitor inventory levels at the cashier station, notify supervisors when stock is low, and ensure that products are restocked as needed
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures related to cash handling, customer service, and transaction processing to ensure consistency and accuracy
  • Reconcile the cash drawer at the end of each shift or day, prepare daily reports, and ensure that all funds are accounted for accurately
  • Suggest additional products or services to customers at the point of sale, inform them of ongoing promotions, and encourage repeat business
  • Follow security protocols to prevent theft, safeguard cash, and ensure the integrity of transactions
  • Help train new cashiers on procedures, policies, and the use of POS systems to ensure they are well-prepared for their roles
  • Work closely with other team members to ensure smooth operations, provide support as needed, and contribute to a positive work environment.
