The Competition Commission is seeking to recruit dynamic, hard-working, and committed individuals for the position of an Economist within the Economic Research Bureau Division. This is an opportunity to engage in economic research pertinent to the Commission’s mandate, which involves addressing anti-competitive conduct and evaluating mergers.
Salary: A starting annual total Cost to Company package of R 977,036.51 (negotiable commensurate with experience)
Contract: This position is available on a five-year fixed term contract, renewable.

- Education: Must have a Master's degree in Economics.
- Experience: 4-6 years of work experience in a rigorous economic analysis environment. Training and experience in Microeconomics, Econometrics, Industrial Organization, and/or International Trade is advantageous.

- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Diplomacy, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Knowledge:
- A thorough understanding of the Competition Act, the Competition Commission, and the South African economy is highly recommended.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist with the rigorous economic analysis of competition cases.
- Contribute to the provision of the theoretical and intellectual platform for effective implementation of the Competition Act.
- Advise other divisions with regard to economic underpinnings of competition issues.
